Tips on silencing an xbox 360?

so when i play my 360 it ******* roars man. normally they hum a little, but mines like a jet plane. well maybe i exaggerated a little, but its getting to the point where i cant play it without waking everyone in the house up. is this anything to do with needed to hoover the vents out and cleaning the fan? or do i just need a new xbox?
