Why do Republicans act like the Fairness Doctrine is some "new" creation by liberals?

The Fairness Doctrine was important when 3 TV networks dominated the media market. The media today is much more fragmented with cable and the internet. As much as I would like to annoy conservative gasbags, I don't think the Fairness Doctrine would make sense today.
